Betta pugnax – Penang Betta

You can keep Betta pugnax – Penang Betta as a couple in a community aquarium. He is peaceful to other fishes. Those fishes should be large enough, because small fishes are eaten. The aquarium should be planted densely because they need hiding places. The light should be dimmed by using floating plants. They appreciate a strong current. It is recommended to change a large part of the water regularly.

This species was described by Cantor in 1849.

Synonyms: Macropodus pugnax, Betta macrophthalma, Betta brederi.

Asia; Betta pugnax – Penang Betta originates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Diet

You should give them live food.

Breeding Betta pugnax – Penang Betta

Breeding Betta pugnax – Penang Betta is rather easy. Up to 100 eggs are laid and fertilized. After that the male takes the eggs in his mouth. He keeps them for 1-2 weeks. Young fishes can be fed with infusoria and later with baby brine shrimp.
